Daddy

My dad was born in the twenties, the youngest of two boys out on the family farm. He was  drafted when World War 2 was going on. We were told he had rheumatic fever and was discharged from the service not long after he was in.

As he grew up (wanting to get away from the cotton farm) he held several jobs, (this was after being released from the service) one being a hardware store where he met and married my mother. After they were married a short time, my grandparents needed help at the farm again so Mama and Daddy moved out to the farm.

Eventually all seven of us siblings came along. We all had a hand in picking cotton too over the years except for the last child, he was too young. Later we all moved into town after daddy had been diagnosed with diabetes and started to lose his sight.

One by one each child started getting married. By the time there were only three of us left, Daddy had lost his eyesight completely. We lost our father when  he was only fifty five years old.

  1. Excellent, excellent choice for D!!

I am sorry to hear about your loss though. My dad is a just a few younger (and he had 8 kids! must have been the generation). He is still with us.

  2. Thea,

Wasn't Daddy older than Clayton? I always thought so. Nice short story about him. Nice pics too.
