There are certainly more buses running today than there used to be when I was younger. The first bus I ever rode on was the big yellow one that took all of us kids to school. I remember thinking how important I felt to be going on this bus with all the bigger kids. Back then all ages and grades rode the same bus. It's not like it is today with each school having it's own set of buses. Anyway, once I got to ride on one I felt so tiny. Some of the kids on that bus were like giants to me, we were packed in there like sardines. I remember being in a seat almost to the back of the bus. By the time I reached the sixth grade there was a bus for just that grade. They were bussing all sixth graders to one particular school. That was the only time I had ever traveled so far to school each day.
I've never went to school on a bus before until I went to College and we had a commuting issue because only my brother had his license back then and he had started going to work.
ReplyDeleteUp until high school we were taken to school in our car :)
I had fun riding the college bus but it was horrible waiting for it to show up and ten stressing about missing it!
You were lucky not to experience the bus younger. That waiting is terrible, isn't it?

You're welcome!!
DeleteYes, and I remember once I missed the bus by literally a second (not even kidding). A class ran late because my professor was being lazy distributing grades and I SAW the bus driving away when I was only two steps away from the bus stand!!!
I only ever road the bus in middle school but I have fond memories of that time.

I have two fond memories. The first grade, finally getting to ride with my siblings to see what it all was about and the time when I was in 6th grade and all of us were on the bus for that grade

Yeah, the old school bus days. Who can forget that? Scherri and I missed it a few times as teenagers because we took too long to get ready and then had to play hookie, or call someone to give us a ride. And of course try not to get in trouble over it. Those were the days.

Thanks for your daily visits to my blog!! I remember riding the bus when I was a kindergartener. I wanted to impress a couple of third graders, so I brought a little mermaid chapter book on the bus and made sure they saw me reading it. Ah, those were the days!
ReplyDeleteThe little mermaid...that's adorable. I bet it did the trick too.
