Here we go again..........................

As you know by now my husband works in electrical construction. He has for years. Only 3 more until he's 65 and plans to retire. with that being sad, let me tell you about the latest news.

My husband works for the union. His local is out of Watertown, New York. Believe me he would have gotten out of it years ago if it weren't for his pension.

When he goes on a job they let him know how long to expect sometimes that the work will last. If it is a short call, that means it is 2-3 weeks generally. If it is a long call it is from several months to years.

This last job that took us to Plattsburg , New York . It was an asphalt plant. Some company out of the capital did a lot of research and decided the best place for this plant would be in this area. The job would last for several months and then they would take the workers from this job to the next they had going.
We were there a total of 4 1/2 weeks. When my husband went to work yesterday morning the owners were there with others. The workers were told to just stand by and wait because they were all in an important meeting. And hour later they came out and told all of the workers "the job is shut down. There is no more work." It seems the company in the area that had the monopoly on the asphalt companies didn't want any competition so they bought this other company out. I guess they had haggled the price for a couple weeks and no one knew it. Once the price reached three times what they paid for it they took the money. This is sad because you know the old saying "Money talks". So here we are back at home again waiting for the next job that comes along. It does look promising so far though because summer time everything always hops. Crossing fingers. More on all of this later.
(by the way, it took me 1 1/2 hours to pack everything up to come home) At least we met some more nice folks out there.
Please come back in a couple days....I have an event scheduled to show you.

  2. So disheartening for your hubby and you. I can only hope the next 3 years before he can retire is not filled with events like this.

    1. You hit it right on the head. I would never recommend to anyone starting out to go with the construction trade. But someone has to do it. Right?
