Do any of you out there that might be looking at this remember the old days? How you couldn't wait for the movie to start? The mosquitos being terrible? Buying those green coiled pics they sold at the concession stand to help with them; but never reaching far enough to the ones in the back of the car? Getting a speaker that didn't work? It sure does bring back memories.

The Storm

Doesn't this sky look menacing? It was a terrible storm by the time it was over with lots and lots of rain and very windy.
A person could use this in a book. I can't think of lots of ways to put it in one too. ha!

Owls

Owls are so beautiful in their own way. I like to look at pictures of them. It is amazing how good their sight really is; especially in the dark. Can you spot the owl in this photo?

Fish

When I first came to New York state many years ago I had no idea what a "Northern Pike" looked like. Most people that live in the South do not. I took a picture hoping to let you all see what one looks like. The "Northern Pike" is up in the right hand corner of the picture. The "Bass" is in the left hand corner. I am sorry the picture did not turn out any better than this. The lighting was poor.

Bass Masters Day3

This is a photo of one of the boats that is in the competition of day 3. We were lucky today to not have the humidity and the heat we have had the last few days. It was in the 70's with strong winds and gusts; a little choppy on the water though for the fishermen. Tomorrow will be the final day for the top 12 anglers.

"American Idol" finalist, Bucky Covington performing on day two of the BassMasters Festival. This was as close as I could get as you can see. I had to squeeze through the crowd this for this shot.

This is taken from our first day at the Bass Masters Elite day. As you can see the sky is a beautiful blue with a few clouds. We got there a bit early so they were not all set up yet. I will be posting photos from time to time for all of you to see.

Jugglers

We stopped and saw the Juggling act today at the Homecoming event. This event was mainly for the kids. Quite a few were asked to join them in their acts. It all went over quite fell with the exception of a few rain drops.

Stormy Weather

This summer has been very unusual in the weather department. This spring was very chilly. There were even a couple nights that were down near the freezing temperatures. No one thought it would ever warm up. This past two weeks have been very hot and humid; the humidity reminding me of Texas when I was growing up. Everyone gets thunderstorms from time to time but this year they seem to be more intense. We have had a couple power outages this year. One was quite lenghthy.

Andy's Birthday

Our beautiful Andy is three years old today. He is enjoying his new toy. It is really hard to believe it has been three years. I remember when we brought him home. He came to us at seven weeks old because his mother could no longer nurse him; he had too many teeth. Andy is very protective and loving. He is constantly wagging his tail; I have never seen a dog so happy all the time. And curious! Whenever we get a package in the mail he wants to be the first one in the box to see what it is.

Boating

 Boating

It is a busy time of year on the St. Lawrence River. There are many pleasure crafts and lakers that run up and down the river through the locks carrying cargo. The first time I saw a Laker coming from each side and meeting each other it was amazing to me. They would blow their horns to let the other know where they were. One would stand aside and let the other pass. I still never get tired of seeing them after almost 30 years.

My Experience

I don't know how many of you out there use "Dish" for tv reception. I would like to share my experience with them:
To start with we use to have Cable and really liked it. But the provider kept adding channels that no one would watch and the bill kept getting higher and higher. At this point we had cable for over 20 years and thought maybe they could give us some kind of special or something. They had been running sales on the tv about all their wonderful packages. Sorry to say we got no help so we decided to brave the waters and try Dish. You have to sign a two year contract with these folks before you get connected. We were told the reception would be really good. Now I am here to tell you exactly what we went through for those two years. Everytime the wind blew strangly or a even the tiniest of clouds moved over head in the sky we had no reception. Not to mention the many times they were out here doing service calls plus all the ice build up on the dish on the roof. (My husband got sick of that really fast). After our two years was up we called and they sent another tech out. By this time none the the local channels were working. (News and etc..) The man that came out told us we should never have had Dish to begin with. His exact words were "You were destined to fail". He said we had no line of sight to the house. He also told us within a week we would lose all the premium channels. He recommended we try "Direct TV". So far so good. But the crazy thing is; when I called Dish to tell them we no long had line of sight the girl told me "You can always have it shut off for six months so when the trees lose their leaves you can watch the set again."
Just thought I would share this.

Eyes

A friend of mine and I were looking through our files to see what we could come up with to make this blog a little more unusual. I have come up with several anmated eyes that I really like. The ones that I use on my desktop are alot bigger than this . What do you think of these?

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial day to all of you out there. I am thankful we finally have a sunny day for this. At least the people in the parade won't have to march in the rain this year. This is the 3rd time in 29 years the day has turned out decent for us.

My Big Boy

I just wanted to share my big boy with you all. I have never seen a more happier little guy ever. He wakes up wagging his tail and never stops; however he is very protective of me. I love all animals. I figure they are gifts from God. If I could I would take them all; of course I would need at least a football field to take them all in. My hubby just rolls his eyes when I say that. Ha!

Animal Safety

Now that the weather has started to get warmer I see more and more folks out there leaving their animals in their cars in the parking lots with the windows barely down for air while they go in and shop. Everytime I see this I report it. Some managers of the stores will shout it out on the speaker system to warn the people to leave so their animals do not die. Most I guess are so embarrassed they have been caught and they do leave. I know people do love their animals and want them with them as much as possible but this is not the thing to do. It is very cruel.

Tigers

I don't know what it is about tigers that I like so much. I really like the leopard spots. As a matter of fact I have a leaopard throw on my couch right now. I try and collect all the pictures and items I can get with the tigers on them. This picture was kind of unique in iteslf so I thought to share it with all of you.

Ticks

Here is a tip for all of you out there that may be near wooded areas or maybe camp out. The weather is getting alot nicer out now so this may come in handy.

Spring Cleaning

I don't know how many of you out there do spring cleaning every year. I have found most people are too busy to even bother with it. I am a home maker so I do it every year. I have noticed though as I grow older how much tougher it is to climb up and down a ladder to reach things and clean; the same thing goes for getting down on the floors for baseboards and etc....But at the end of each day you can sit back and enjoy your accomplishments for that day and it makes it smell alot fresher after being closed in during the winter; especially with the winters being so long where I live.

Shelters

There are so many unwanted animals out there now in shelters; not even counting the ones that are just roaming the streets. It is not their faults they are born; that's just human nature. I hope there are those out there that can see this. I don't know what I would do without my Andy. He is one of God's gifts to us.

Weather

The weather for just about everyone has been up and down like a yoyo this Spring. It gets very depressing at times when all you see is the overcast skies and rain. Just remember the Sun will shine. Hang in there. Read a book; go shopping; spend time with friends..... anything that will help bring you out of any depressions you might have.

Abandoned House

Have you often wondered about the old abandoned houses that you see? Every time I see one I wonder who the people were like that lived there; did they pass away or just move out and let the place crumble?
Did these homesteaders have parties? Maybe they were farm people that had to live off of the land. How many children? There are so many questions unanswered.

Easter

It seems that Easter is earlier than usual this year but I could not let it slip by without wishing everyone out there a Happy Easter! Rain is in the forecast for us so I feel sorry for the little ones searching for eggs.

I remember when me and my siblings were really little and Daddy would take us out to the hay meadow every year to hunt for the easter eggs. If it was bad weather Mama would always find the time to hide them in the house. I don't know how she ever did that with 7 children around.

Life

Have you ever had this happen to you? Sometimes when you dive into a book and it is so exciting where you just can't put it down? You can actually visualize the scene they are describing and maybe even relate to it in some way? It can happen.

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you Irish people out there. My hubby gets it honest but I get it from his last name. Ha!

Anniversaries

Thirty years ago on March 14th my hubby and I got married in a small place in Missouri. We figured it was the half way point between his native New York and my being from Texas.
I just looked up the symbol and it says "Pearl" for thirty years.
Not sure what we are doing tomorrow yet but when I looked out earlier it was snowing pretty hard.
Happy Anniversary to us!

Daylight Savings Time

It seems like it has been two winters back to back this year for me. I thought it would never end. Actually it is snowing right now so it hasn't yet but this picture sure helps. I know it is around the corner now.

Books

It is amazing how far your mind can go just by reading a book. And you can pick which way you would like it to go. For instance: You are on a battlefield and the enemy is on your tail; your best friend has been shot. Do you have the strength it takes to get to safety along with your friend before the enemy reaches you? Or how about you are in a magical world with wizards and mages; in order to save one of the wizard's from peril, you are sent on a journey to gather everything you need for a potion that only a witch can brew to save it's life? Along the way you encounter many enemies to stop you.
All you have to do is dive into a book and be swept off your feet.

The Old Out House

If you are old enough, and can remember the old "Out-House", then you will chuckle at this one........

The Old Gas Station

The service station trade was slow.
The owner sat around,
With sharpened knife and cedar stick.
Piled shavings on the ground.

No modern facilities had they,
The log across the rill
Led to a shack, marked His and Hers
That sat against the hill.

"Where is the ladies restroom, sir?"
The owner leaning back,
Said not a word but whittled on,
And nodded toward the shack.

With quickened step she entered there
But only stayed a minute,
Until she screamed, just like a snake
Or spider might be in it.

With startled look and beet red face
She bounded through the door,
And headed quickly for the car.
Just like three gals before.

She tripped and fell -- got up,
and then In obvious disgust,
Ran to the car, stepped on the gas,
And faded in the dust.

Of course we all desired to know
What made the gals all do
The things they did, and then we found out what
The whittling owner knew.

A speaking system he'd devised
To make the thing complete,
He tied a speaker on the wall
Beneath the toilet seat.

He'd wait until the gals got set, and then the devilish tyke,
would stop his whittling long enough, to speak into the mike.

And as she sat, a voice below, struck terror, fright and fear
"Will you please use the other hole?  We're painting under here."

Seamstress Sewing Machine

This is my Seamstress sewing machine. It used to be a foot paddle one but was changed into electric. It really is a tough little machine. The only draw back is the bobbin. It does not hold very much. My husband recently had to rewire it.

Winter Hum Drums

This is the time of year where you wish the cold and snow would just go away. I must say we have had an unusual winter up to this point. Last week it got up to 51 degrees one day! That never happens. When this picture was taken a few minutes ago it was 15 degrees with a wind chill of 1 degree. The blue sky looks so heavenly; we haven't seen much of it. We have a lot more snow than this too by now. The family members that live in the south report temperatures between the 70's and low 80's. Oh my!!

Freezing

This is our coldest week of the year. It got up to a whopping minus seven degrees this morning. The week is expected to not be above ten degrees until Friday morning and then it is going to be fifteen degrees. My niece wrote that she was going to the park with the kids because it was going to be in the sixties in Texas.  Someday we will see that again. Can you tell I am tired of this cold? Ha!

The Weather

The weather has been unusually warm this past week. It even got up into the upper fifties at one point. Of course we lost a lot of the snow we had but I am sure we will pay for it in the coming weeks. It is already starting to get colder again.

Our Little Devil

Our little bugger tried so hard to get to his Christmas stocking and packages this year. As you can see I put up a gate but he was smart enough to know he could still get to it.
